Op Broken Accord 08 - 2026/10/03

Situation

During OP 07, British forces dismantled and destroyed the KDF airfield at OBJ Tarmac, Airfield Kuna, and captured Yusuf Gedi at the presidential compound in Incirkli. Yusuf remains in custody. His capture has removed the de facto leader around whom much of the fragmented KDF had consolidated, while the destruction of the airfield has denied its remaining regional air capability. The KDF no longer retains an operational armoured or airborne force capable of supporting a coordinated response.

The loss of Yusuf and the collapse of the senior command structure have left the KDF in disarray. Most remaining personnel are assessed as likely to have disarmed, although this has not been confirmed across the region. Personnel loyal to the Gedi brothers are likely to join the KGC or place themselves under Bashir Gedi's direction. These elements may retain the ability to defend individual positions despite the loss of a functioning KDF chain of command. Many checkpoints remain manned, and the breakdown of central authority does not establish that their occupants have surrendered.

Laptop intelligence recovered during OP 06 identified four KGC safehouses believed to be used by Bashir. The sites fall within the search area designated OBJ Manacle and remain the best available leads to his location. Surveillance has not confirmed his presence at any of them. Yusuf's capture gives Bashir reason to reconsider the security of these premises, so their previous use cannot be treated as confirmation that he remains there.

POI Manacle Alpha and Bravo are the prime candidates for Bashir's presence. The secluded mountainside property at OBJ Veil, where the brothers' photograph was recovered, provides a precedent for their use of isolated premises away from established routes. Alpha and Bravo's locations in more remote settlements are assessed as consistent with that preference. This assessment concerns Bashir's likely refuge, not the location of his command infrastructure or the largest KGC garrisons. Charlie and Delta remain possible locations, and a defended command point elsewhere may provide information on his movements without housing him directly.

Bashir may attempt to reorganise the remaining KGC and loyal KDF personnel for a counter-attack intended to recover Yusuf. No such operation has been confirmed, but leaving Bashir at large would allow him to direct the forces still willing to fight. Exploitation of each safehouse and command point may establish whether he has moved, where he intends to go and which personnel remain in contact with him. The loss of KDF armour and aviation reduces the threat of a coordinated military response but does not remove the danger from armed personnel, manned checkpoints or surviving short-range air-defence systems.

Lieutenant General Hassan Nadim has broken with the coup and emerged alongside Ahmed Nuru after a period in hiding. It is assessed that Yusuf's capture reduced the threat sufficiently for Nadim to approach contacts within Kamira Renewal and arrange contact with Nuru. British forces were excluded from these arrangements following the failure to assist Renewal during the compromised OP 02 return and death of Karim Ismail.

Acknowledgements

  • Refer to the situation report for detailed information on known factions and identification images.
  • The operation begins at first light, following approximately 60 minutes of darkness.
  • Manned KDF checkpoints remain across the Area of Operations.
  • The four POI buildings are leads, not confirmed sightings. Empty sites must still be searched and exploited for intelligence.

Commanders intent

The intent of this operation is to capture Bashir Gedi and dismantle the remaining KGC strongholds, denying him the forces and command infrastructure needed to launch a counter-attack or attempt to recover Yusuf from custody.

40 Commando & 47 Commando

  • [OBJ Manacle] Raid the remaining KGC strongholds and locate and capture Bashir Gedi. Use recovered intelligence to direct further searches within the area.
  • [POI Manacle] Conduct sensitive site exploitation at every safehouse and c2 node. Secure and extract any captured occupants, recover communications, documents and other command material.

2nd Battalion, Parachute Regiment

  • [OBJ Manacle] Support the Commando raids. Secure the approaches to sites under assault and prevent hostile reinforcement or withdrawal while assault and exploitation elements operate.

Joint Aviation Command

  • [POI Manacle Alpha] Provide the planned one- or two-aircraft door-front insertion, subject to confirmation of the landing area and local air-defence threat.
  • Maintain surveillance and movement support for follow-on action at Bravo, Charlie and Delta. Report movement from a site promptly so the ground force can act on it.
  • Maintain extraction capability for Bashir, other detainees and casualties.
