Op Broken Accord 07 - 2026/09/26

Situation

During OP 04, British forces recovered Foreign Affairs Minister Idris Aden before hostile forces could use his authority to obtain government funds and foreign aid. This denied Defence Cabinet Secretary Yusuf Gedi access to those accounts, but did not significantly reduce the immediate KDF military threat. Yusuf continues to exercise de facto authority over the remaining government following the deaths of President Samir Noor and General Malik Omar.

During OP 05, British forces destroyed the hostile KDF positions at OBJ Bastion Alpha and OBJ Bastion Bravo and the long-range surface-to-air missile system and radar at OBJ Pike. A photograph recovered at OBJ Veil confirmed that KGC commander Bashir Gedi is Yusuf's brother. The site contained personnel but no senior leadership. The family link, Bashir's seizure of the KGC and Yusuf's assumption of government authority support the assessment that their actions were coordinated.

In OP 06, British forces secured OBJ Gatekeeper, the KDF forward position controlling the approach to Airfield Kuna, and established a temporary FOB there. Both OBJ Lantern raids succeeded. Laptop intelligence recovered during the operation identifies four KGC safehouses believed to be used by Bashir. The sites are under surveillance in preparation for OP 08. None has yet confirmed Bashir's current location.

Airfield Kuna, designated OBJ Tarmac, is the last KDF-operated airfield in the region. A KDF garrison remains at the airfield despite the loss of OBJ Gatekeeper and the forward positions destroyed during OP 05. The garrison's strength and the disposition of its defences have not been confirmed. The destruction of the radar at OBJ Pike removed one long-range threat, but other KDF radar sites remain operational and continue to threaten British aviation. Leaving the airfield intact would preserve the KDF's remaining regional air capability and a means of sustaining its forces.

Current reporting places Yusuf at the presidential compound in Incirkli, designated OBJ Sovereign. The compound remains under the control of forces aligned with the coup. The extent of its protection and Yusuf's movements within or outside the site have not been confirmed. His position gives him access to government authority and KDF resources, while Bashir remains at large with control of the KGC. Securing the compound without Yusuf would leave the brothers able to coordinate their withdrawal or continue operating through their respective forces.

If Yusuf is captured alive, the brothers will be separated and he can no longer direct government resources or depart the region with Bashir. Bashir may abandon the monitored safehouses once he learns of the capture, but surveillance remains the best available lead to his location. If Yusuf escapes, it is assessed as likely that both brothers will leave the region, reducing the prospect of locating Bashir at those sites during OP 08. If Yusuf is killed, there is no reliable basis to predict whether Bashir will remain, withdraw or retaliate. Capturing Yusuf alive therefore offers the best prospect of disrupting the leadership without losing the opportunity to locate Bashir.

Commanders intent

The intent of this operation is to capture Yusuf Gedi alive at OBJ Sovereign and dismantle the KDF's remaining regional air capability at OBJ Tarmac. Securing Yusuf will deny the coup leadership the opportunity to withdraw together, while disabling the airfield will disrupt KDF air operations and logistics.
