Description:
Samir al-Masri is assessed to be a Syrian-born militant and specialist raid commander attached to LRK. He is believed to have moved through several armed groups before crossing into Iraq, bringing experience in convoy ambushes, attacks on soft-skinned logistics vehicles, and strikes against isolated security detachments. Current intelligence suggests al-Masri was the field commander behind the Toska convoy attack near Mazri. The ambush showed signs of deliberate planning, including spotters, drone support, indirect fire, blocked movement, rapid cargo exploitation, and pre-planned extraction routes. The speed and precision of the attack suggests the raiders had prior knowledge of the convoy route and understood which vehicles carried the most sensitive material. Intercepted LRK communications suggest al-Masri’s role in the Toska convoy ambush has divided opinion inside the network. Some members credit him with humiliating Toska and recovering high-value cargo, while others blame him for drawing UK attention onto LRK.
