Op Borealis 06 - 2026/02/28

Situation

Operations in the southern sector have resulted in significant territorial losses for the SLA, with key defensive belts dismantled and the Resko Industrial site secured. As a result, extremist elements have transitioned from a distributed defensive posture to consolidation around their final remaining strongholds: Virojoki and Airfield Nakar.

In response to mounting pressure, the SLA has initiated a last-ditch breakout attempt in the north (OBJ Crusade Alpha). Current assessment indicates this manoeuvre is designed to penetrate deeper into the region, secure viable logistics routes, and sustain operational momentum in the face of increasing isolation. The breakout represents both a tactical necessity and a strategic gamble.

Intel recovered during OP 05 indicates a rapid fallback from the southern front, with SLA forces withdrawing toward Virojoki to reinforce defensive positions in and around the city. Mining activity and phased withdrawal lines suggest a deliberate contraction rather than collapse, aimed at creating a hardened defensive perimeter around the urban centre, airfield and key positions between them.

Maritime activity remains ongoing in AO Bravo. The cargo vessel responsible for deploying a majority of SLA assets has been observed conducting both loading and unloading operations. The intent of the vessel remains unconfirmed; however, current assumptions are that it supports reinforcement, resupply, or potential exfiltration of personnel and materiel. Securing or neutralising this asset would significantly disrupt SLA sustainment efforts.

Further north of the vessel, a substantial coastal fortification network has been established (OBJ Seawall). Hardened positions, interlocking fields of fire, and defensive obstacles indicate deliberate preparation to deny amphibious assault routes and prevent coastal exfiltration in and attempt to prevent future actions on Airfield Nakar and main supply route to the city.

During OP 05, SLA forces were observed employing civilians as deliberate shields for key anti-air systems. These assets were positioned in the open, relying on civilian presence as deterrence rather than concealment. This represents a calculated escalation intended to complicate engagement decisions and degrade freedom of action. Civilian extraction and disciplined fires will be critical considerations when approaching key SLA assets.

Acknowledgements

  • Refer to the situation report for detailed information on known factions and identification.
  • CIVPOP are friendly and should be cooperative with many of them fleeing to safety of nearby towns and police.
  • CIVPOP in small towns have likely retreated to larger towns and cities for safety. Engagements around this areas should take care to avoid civilian casualties.
  • SLA elements have demonstrated deliberate use of civilian shields around key anti-air assets. Civilian extraction and the application of disciplined, proportionate fires remain critical considerations for all elements moving forward to mitigate collateral damage and maintain operational legitimacy.

Commanders intent

The primary objective of this operation is to prepare the battlespace for the upcoming assault on Airfield Nakar and the city of Virojoki, the final two remaining strongholds of the SLA. This operation focuses on dismantling supporting assets that would otherwise threaten or complicate future offensive actions. By degrading their logistics, indirect fire capability, air defence network, coastal fortifications, and breakout attempts, we will isolate Virojoki and the airfield and shape conditions for decisive follow on actions.
